Hub hosts ‘Pathways to Resilience’ workshop in Kolkata

Hub team members from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) recently organized a workshop in Kolkata to showcase their groundbreaking work on "Pathways to Resilience in Vulnerable Ecosystems of the Sundarbans." The event, held on June 25, 2023, brought together more than 50 stakeholders, including representatives from the delta regions, along with ten expert panellists.

The primary objective of the workshop was to provide a platform for Hub members to present their research on Pathways to Resilience and actively engage with stakeholders for valuable feedback and further discussions. During the interactive sessions, workshop attendees shared insightful observations, contributing to the refinement of the Pathways to Resilience exercise. Key areas of interest that were extensively discussed included water management encompassing rivers, oceans, groundwater, and rainwater, as well as livelihood security and infrastructural development. Through meaningful interaction and the exchange of diverse perspectives, the workshop systematically addressed major issues, proposed approaches, and action points crucial for the sustainable development of the delta region.

Notably, two prominent non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating in the Sundarbans region expressed a keen interest in publishing the findings of the Pathways to Resilience exercise. This decision aims to disseminate the research outcomes to a wider range of stakeholders, thereby increasing awareness and encouraging collective efforts towards resilience-building in vulnerable ecosystems. The findings of the workshop were broadly endorsed by the participants, underscoring the importance of their contributions in further improving the Pathways to Resilience initiative.

The workshop served as a vital platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the exchange of innovative ideas among researchers, stakeholders, and experts. The engagement fostered a holistic perspective on the sustainable development of the Sundarbans delta region, paving the way for effective strategies to enhance resilience in the face of environmental challenges.
