Delt Digest Newsletter | April 2023

With South and Southeast Asia currently facing unprecedented heatwaves, safe access to water for drinking, bathing and livelihoods is more vital than ever.

Last month, the UN met for its Water Conference in New York, and we stressed the importance of making water central to climate action. By managing both together, we can protect water resources, reduce disaster risks, lower greenhouse-gas emissions, and ensure fair access.

Our recent research highlights how integrated water management can build resilience, enhance adaptation, and ensure access to clean water and sanitation. This is vital for SDG6 and other SDG implementation within the Mekong Delta. We call for a more integrated approach to water resource management, based on coherence, cross-sectoral coordination, and people’s participation principles.

Considering the risks facing delta systems, our colleagues at the Hub are hosting a session this week at EGU General Assembly 2023. They will be discussing steps towards resilience within the changing climate, covering a diverse range of research from multi-hazards to modelling, and livelihoods to risk assessments.
